About Us

Berkeley Inns Limited is an expanding pub/restaurant group headquartered in Derbyshire, UK, established in January 2015 with the initial objective of acquiring and revitalising a number of neglected pubs in the Midlands region. Our overarching mission is to develop viable, high-quality establishments while recapturing or preserving the traditional ambiance of the local pub.

In April 2015, Berkeley Inns Limited assumed ownership of The Horseshoes, situated in Long Lane Village, Derbyshire. Extensive renovations and expansions were undertaken, culminating in the reopening of the pub along with a new restaurant extension in September 2015. The enthusiastic public response was immediate, and our patronage has steadily increased ever since.

Subsequent enhancements were made in May 2017, coupled with a rebranding effort, resulting in a more refined dining experience alongside the lively public bar. The Horseshoes has persistently maintained its status as one of Derbyshire’s premier pub/restaurants.

Early in November 2016, following a closure of over a decade, we successfully reopened the extensively renovated Cock Inn in Mugginton, Derbyshire. The pub, which had previously held a prominent reputation prior to 2006, garnered a highly positive public response to its transformation. With a seating capacity of over 120 diners, the establishment consistently remained bustling, receiving exceptional feedback, multiple national awards, and serving up to 2000 freshly prepared meals weekly. The business was successfully sold to The RedCat Pub Company on July 18th, 2022.

In December 2017, we acquired The Cow at Dalbury Lees. Following substantial renovations and expansions, we established a quaint boutique hotel featuring 12 individually designed, en-suite bedrooms, accompanied by a meticulously renovated bar and restaurant space. The rooms have consistently enjoyed high demand from both leisure and business travellers. Since its inception, the establishment has consistently maintained high occupancy rates, while the seafood-centric restaurant has flourished and continues to enjoy loyal patronage.

May 2019 marked the reopening of the widely renowned Meynell Ingram Arms in Hoar Cross, Staffordshire. This historically significant Staffordshire pub had remained closed for over five years before being acquired by Berkeley Inns Ltd in November 2018. Over the ensuing six months, the property underwent a comprehensive yet empathetic refurbishment and redesign. Winning multiple national awards including The Publican awards ‘Best new pub in the UK’, The Meynell became one of the busiest pubs in the Midlands. Alongside the Cock Inn, the pub was successfully sold to the RedCat Pub Company in July 2022.

Following two years of renovations and extension delayed by the global pandemic, in July 2021 we were delighted to unveil our vision for the splendid Bluebell Inn in Kirk Langley, Derbyshire. Featuring multiple extensions, exquisitely designed outdoor areas, the establishment boasts an enticing menu, exceptional cocktails, and an extensive selection of premium beers, wines, and spirits, all served within an ambiance that seamlessly blends tradition with modernity.

With a lack of potential and appropriate sites locally and following the sales of the Cock Inn and The Meynell, we decided to try our formula in central London noticing the relative paucity of higher end ‘gastro’ style pubs in the area.

We have been fortunate to acquire two sites in the Holborn area. Very different to each other but both with substantial potential. We opened the amazing Last Judgment (formerly the Knights Templar) in May 2023 in Chancery Lane and the beautiful Rugby Tavern on the corner of Great James Street and Rugby Street in July 2023, along with the first floor ‘Bistro Bleu’ French restaurant.

Both properties have undergone substantial renovation and modernisation and the initial public reaction has been most encouraging.

We continue to seek further sites and anticipate more new openings in 2024.
